Getting you, your family, and friends in and out of the building is not the only thing the outside door is about. When you mount a door, you want it to swing easily, bolt tightly, seal out the weather and be secure. You will get a big head start on achieving these targets by choosing the right set-up to start with. And with Universal Framing Carpentry, we will provide you with the best solutions.

Key things we note are setting the door’s height, shaking the frame so that the holes in between and the door are even, and taking precautions to make the installation durable.

Below are some of the services we offer in various locations including Toronto, North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Markham, Vaughan, Concord, Woodbridge, King City, Aurora, Newmarket.

Window Installation

Any method of window installation has its place. An older historic home with elaborately detailed interior trim that needs to be saved can require a pocket install to execute the installation without disturbing the interior trim. On the other side, a home that exhibits water damage from improperly constructed or leaky windows can need a full-frame installation to repair any water damage or rot before installing new windows with a proper water management system. The choice is not that clear to other households. It is up to the homeowner, with the aid of their window contractor, to consider each construction process’s advantages and determine what is right for them.

Pocket Installation

Pocket Installation is distinguished by keeping the old window frame in place. Sashes, parting stops, jam liners, and storm windows are removed, leaving only the old window frame. The new window is customized to fit into the old frame. For windows to be used for this installation process, a narrower 3 1⁄4″ frame width is needed.

Advantage: Pocket Installation is a simple, fast, and usually less costly alternative to replace a window. This system allows a window to be mounted without destroying or upsetting the current interior trim.

Disadvantages: Leaving the original window frame in place does not permit the examination and care of rough openings for water exposure, rotted wood, insulation, insect infestation, or mold. In total, pocket installation leaves significantly less glass than the original pane. It can affect the available light, viewing area, and overall appearance. Leaving old worn trim can be a “mismatch” to the style of new windows.

Full Frame Installation

Full Frame Installation is characterized by eliminating the whole original display. This method of removal should result in exposure to the initial studded opening or rough opening.

Advantages: The complete replacement of the old window enables the inspection and care of rough openings for exposure to water, rotted wood, insect infestation, and mold. Current water treatment and insulation materials and practices should be considered on a modern full-frame installation. Interior light levels, viewing areas, and overall appearances are preserved owing to the comparable scale of the glass to the original windows. A full-frame installation normally replaces the interior window trim. The new interior window trim is elegant and provides an option for changing color and theme.

Disadvantages: Full-frame installs are more extensive and usually more costly to replace a window.

There is a lot of videos for DIY exterior door and windows installation that anyone can watch. But I am not good when it comes to carpentry. I’d rather be wise to let the experts do the job. I do not want to throw the materials into waste when I make a mistake. I am sure Universal Framing Carpentry can provide solutions to my case.

I agree with the first comment. If you do not want to mess up your exterior windows and doors, you should not rely on videos to do the job. It will just cost you more to get it fixed if the result does not look good. Let the experts do the job.
